What is the Innovator Founder Visa?

The Innovator Founder Visa is for experienced entrepreneurs who want to start and operate an innovative, scalable and viable business in the UK. It replaces the previous Innovator Visa and does not require a minimum investment, making it more accessible to business founders.

Visa Duration: Up to 3 years (can be extended or lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain).
No Minimum Investment Requirement: But applicants must show they have sufficient funds to establish and grow their business.
Business Endorsement Required: The business must be approved by a UK endorsing body.
Path to Settlement: Eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 3 years.

Eligibility Requirements for the Innovator Founder Visa

To qualify for this visa, applicants must:

Have an Innovative Business Idea – The business must be unique and not already established in the UK.
Get Endorsed by a UK Endorsing Body – The endorsing body will assess the business’s innovation, viability and scalability.
Meet the English Language Requirement – Level B2 on the CEFR scale or an equivalent qualification.
Have Enough Funds to Support Themselves – At least £1,270 in savings for 28 consecutive days before applying.
Work Exclusively on the Endorsed Business – Unlike previous Innovator Visas, founders can undertake secondary employment.

What is the Start-Up Visa? (No Longer Available for New Applicants)

The Start-Up Visa was for early-stage entrepreneurs who wanted to establish a business in the UK. It required an endorsement from a UK university or an approved business endorsing body. However, this visa was closed to new applicants in 2023 and the Innovator Founder Visa is now the primary route for entrepreneurs.
